Airline Update: Perth to Paris

New routes and air alliances can mean more travel options, so what’s new in the air and on the ground this week?

From farm to plane
In a world where ‘full service’ airlines such as British Airways now make those in economy pay for food and drinks, it’s refreshing to see not all carriers are equal.

Singapore Airlines has recently announced it will be upgrading its in-flight catering with it’s farm to plane concept. Designed to promote environmental sustainability and support  farming communities, the airline intends to incorporate more meatless ingredients and local produce in its in-flight meals.

Starting in the airline’s Suites cabin, the initiative will be rolled out to business and economy as well. Demonstrating Singapore Airline’s efforts to help reduce their carbon footprint, Marvin Tan, Senior Vice-President Product & Services, said: “While we continue to deliver a quality in-flight dining experience, we would also like our customers to know that we are playing our part in ensuring sustainability.’’

This might be one plane meal worth eating.

Perth to Paris
While London to Perth may be old news, direct flights between Australia and Europe are here to stay with Qantas announcing their intention to launch non-stop flights between Paris and the west coast capital.

While the daily Boeing 787 flights won’t be taking off until 2020 (when the airline adds to its fleet of eight Dreamliners), the daily rights for Paris have been secured.

A third direct flight to Europe, landing in Germany, is also in the airline’s sights, although all this depends on the acquisition of more Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Très bien we say.
