Eat with locals

We all know one of the best parts of travelling is tasting exotic and delicious new foods. And while eating like a local is great, eating with a local adds a whole new dimension to the experience.

While not technically a travel gadget, EatWith is a genius website that allows you to have a meal at in-home dinner parties all around the world.

How does it work? With hosts ranging from professionally trained, Michelin-starred chefs to passionate and practiced home cooks, the website allows you to browse the different dining experiences to find an event that suits your schedule and tastebuds.

Featuring chefs in over 150 cities, EatWith screens the hosts before they get listed, with only four per cent of all applicants currently accepted. The hosts set the menu based on what inspires them, providing guests with a personalised dining experience that you won’t find anywhere else in town.

You can book a solo seat or take a friend or partner along. The host then confirms your booking and sends the address and directions along with the guest list and group messages thread. Guests are seated around the same table, based on the theory that there are no strangers, only friends you haven’t yet met.

What do you think of this idea? Would you consider going to a local’s dinner party?
