While Harry and Meghan may have inspired a boatload of Brits to follow their footsteps, it seems that most of the UK wants to come here anyway, according to a recent survey by UK tour operator On The Go Tours.
The On The Go survey asked Brits for their dream destination for 2019 and in almost every region of Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand came up trumps.
In a survey of 2000 people across the UK, New Zealand came out as the most desired destination, with more than one in four surveyed saying NZ was the place to be in 2019. Australia came a close second, with three in 10 respondents dreaming of holidaying down under in 2019.
Of all 12 regions in the UK, Australia was the preferred destination in Northern Ireland, Wales, the North East, South East, and Yorkshire and the Humber. In the North East, there was a tie between Australia and New Zealand, but in all other regions, apart from two, New Zealand was the top dream destination.
Only London and the West Midlands chose a destination not down under – with both of these regions choosing the USA as their preferred holiday destination next year.
The survey also revealed that the most desired adventure activity for over-55s was hot-air ballooning followed by riding a quad bike. It also showed that cliff jumping is the scariest activity, followed by shark cage diving and bungee jumping.
Do you think Australia is so desired because of its location? Do you think that Harry and Meghan have raised Australia and New Zealand’s profile as a tourist destination?
