Tigerair says bye bye to Bali

Tigerair has decided to permanently drop its routes between Australia and Bali after the airline was again grounded.

Initially cancelling flights scheduled for Friday 3 February, with doubts on whether or not it would be able to fly any flights over the weekend, the airline will now no longer operate flights to the popular tourist destination.

In a statement on its website, Tigerair said:

‘The Indonesian authorities have informed Tigerair that they require an alternative regulatory solution for Tigerair’s operations to Bali. The solution would take at least six months to implement and would compromise the airline’s ability to offer low-cost airfares to travellers to Bali.

As a result of this development, Tigerair Australia has made the difficult decision to withdraw from flying between Australia and Bali permanently, effective today Friday 3 February 2017.’

The airline has started to contact customers to offer refunds. Customers currently in Bali are being contacted with offers of rebooking on Virgin Australia and other airlines.

In regards to timing of refunds, the airline states:

‘Please note that all refunds for payments made via debit and credit cards will be automatically processed within 24–48 hours. Payments made using third-party providers such as travel agents and other forms of payments including POLi, PayPal, Velocity Frequent Flyer and Latitude Interest Free payment will be automatically processed within four business days.’
