If the winter chill is starting to bite and you’re dreaming of swapping your scarf for a sunhat, Qantas has just delivered the perfect excuse to start planning your next adventure.
The iconic Aussie airline has launched a massive, one-week-only sale on flights to some of Asia’s most popular destinations, with return fares starting from just $517.
Yes, you read that right—it’s time to dust off your passport!
Where can you go, and for how much?
Qantas is offering more than 100,000 discounted seats to hotspots including Tokyo, Singapore, Bali, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
Whether you’re craving the neon buzz of Tokyo, the tropical beaches of Bali, or the mouth-watering street food of Bangkok, there’s a deal with your name on it.
Here’s a taste of what’s on offer for return flights departing Sydney:
- Singapore: from $768
- Jakarta: from $799
- Bangkok: from $928
- Hong Kong: from $929
And with fares to other cities starting as low as $517, there’s never been a better time to explore Asia.
When can you travel?
The sale covers travel dates from May this year right through to March 2026. That means you can plan a last-minute escape or lock in a trip for next year’s holidays.
Qantas has cleverly timed these deals to coincide with some of Asia’s most spectacular events and festivals.
For example, if you’ve ever wanted to experience Japan’s famous summer fireworks festivals—like Edogawa, Ome City and Sumidagawa in July—now’s your chance to see them in person.
Why is Qantas doing this?
Qantas CEO Cam Wallace says the airline knows how much Aussies love a good travel bargain, especially when it comes to international getaways.
‘Whether it’s chasing the sun in Bali, exploring the street food scene in Hong Kong or visiting friends and family, there’s something here for everyone,’ he said.
‘These travel dates also line up with some great events and festivals across Asia, making it the perfect time to start planning a getaway.’
How long do you have to book?
The Qantas ‘Red Tail Sale’ is running until 11.59 pm on Sunday, 19 May—but with over 100,000 seats up for grabs, the best deals are likely to be snapped up quickly. If you’ve got your heart set on a particular destination or travel date, don’t wait too long to book.
Tips for getting the best deal
- Be flexible: If you can be a little flexible with your travel dates, you’ll have a better chance of snagging the lowest fares.
- Check your passport: Make sure your passport is up to date—many Asian countries require at least six months’ validity.
- Consider travel insurance: With international travel, it’s always wise to have insurance in case of unexpected hiccups.
- Look for local festivals: Travelling during a festival can be a magical experience, but it can also mean bigger crowds and higher accommodation prices. Weigh up what matters most to you.

Why Asia is a top pick for Aussie travellers
Asia has long been a favourite for Australians, and it’s easy to see why. The region offers a dazzling mix of ancient culture, modern cities, stunning natural beauty and, of course, incredible food.
Plus, the relatively short flight times mean you can be sipping a Singapore Sling or tucking into sushi in no time.
Asia is especially appealing to older Australians. Many destinations are well-suited to older travellers, with excellent transport, English-speaking guides, and a wide range of accommodation options.
Whether you’re after a relaxing beach break, a cultural deep-dive, or a foodie adventure, you’ll find it in Asia.
What about accessibility and comfort?
Qantas is known for its comfortable cabins and attentive service, which can make a big difference on longer flights.
If you have mobility needs or dietary requirements, be sure to let the airline know when you book—they’re usually very accommodating.
Ready to book?
Head to the Qantas website or your preferred travel agent to check out the full list of destinations and fares. Remember, the sale ends at 11.59pm on 19 May, unless sold out earlier.
