Quick and dirty travel tips

By Nicole Clark

The cost of travelling to your dream destination doesn’t come cheap, so it’s good to have a refresher on these simple travel tips to help maximise your money.

Travel in groups
Travelling with a group could reap you huge savings on airfares, accommodation, meals and guides. Companies provide generous discounts to travelling groups, which is why more people are utilising them. And apart from the savings, it may also be safer to travel in groups.

Befriend a local
If you want to experience the best of what the city has to offer, ditch the expensive tour guide and, instead, befriend a local. This could be the bellboy, a bartender, or anyone who has lived there for a long time.

One of the best things about having a local give you a tour is that they’ll know the best places, as well as the ins and outs of their home city. They’ll also know the good restaurants and where you can save the most money on purchases.

Travel during off-season
Not only is it cheaper to travel during the off-season, you also get to enjoy your destination even more since there’s no crowd or long lines to worry about. You might also receive discounts at local shows or events during the slow season.

Check your travel insurance
Make sure your travel insurance covers cancelled flights and tickets, lost luggage and other risks associated with travelling. It’s always better to have something in place in case of unfortunate incidents such as these. If it turns out that you do need it, you’ll save more than you spend.

Wherever you go on your journey, we wish you a safe and happy holiday!
