Ready for Bali? New low-cost flights from South Australia are here

The allure of Bali’s sun-soaked beaches, vibrant culture, and tantalising cuisine is about to become a lot more accessible for Australians. In a move that’s set to shake up the travel scene, Indonesia AirAsia has announced the launch of budget-friendly direct flights from Adelaide to Denpasar, promising an easier and more affordable way for Australians to reach the beloved holiday destination.

Starting June 25 this year, the skies between Adelaide and Bali will be bustling with activity as Indonesia AirAsia takes to the air four times a week. With promotional fares kicking off at a tempting $199, the dream of a Balinese getaway is now within reach for many more travellers.

This new route is a game-changer for over 74,000 South Australian adventurers each year, as estimated by Adelaide Airport officials. The introduction of these flights is not just about convenience; it’s about opening doors to new experiences and memories without breaking the bank.

The flights will be serviced by the 180-seat A320-200, with late-night departures from Adelaide at 11:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Those returning from their tropical escapade will board flights leaving Bali at the crack of dawn at 7:50 am local time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Indonesia AirAsia’s chief executive, Veranita Yosephine, expressed excitement about the new connection. ‘We are thrilled to touch down in Adelaide and South Australia soon for the very first time,’ she said. ‘Australia is one of our most important growth markets with the recent addition of Cairns and Darwin to our network as well as Perth.’

The timing couldn’t be better. With Virgin Australia having discontinued its direct service from South Australia to Bali last May, and Jetstar currently being the sole provider of direct flights on this route, Indonesia AirAsia’s entry is a breath of fresh air for consumers looking for competitive pricing and more flight options.

Adelaide Airport’s managing director, Brenton Cox, highlighted the pent-up demand for affordable flights to Bali, which remains the top destination for South Australian travellers. ‘We’re excited that Indonesia AirAsia has recognised this opportunity and added Adelaide services to its growing network,’ he said.

As for the cost comparison, Jetstar’s prices for similar travel dates range from $279 to $608, showcasing the significant savings that Indonesia AirAsia’s new service offers.

For those eager to lock in their tropical holiday, flights departing from June 2025 are now on sale. This is the perfect opportunity to plan ahead and secure a spot on what promises to be a popular route.

As we look at the broader picture, the question arises: where does the Australian dollar still hold good value for travellers? With fluctuating exchange rates and varying costs of living abroad, destinations like Bali, where the Australian dollar can stretch further, become even more attractive for budget-conscious travellers.

The launch of these budget-friendly flights opens up new possibilities for those dreaming of a Bali getaway. Whether you’re a frequent visitor or considering Bali for the first time, this new route offers a chance to explore the island at an affordable price.

What are your thoughts on this new route? Will you be booking a flight for your next tropical getaway? Or perhaps you’ve already experienced Bali—what tips or recommendations do you have for those planning a trip? Feel free to share your thoughts and travel plans in the comments below!
