Tucked away in the lush hinterland of New South Wales (NSW), a hidden gem has quietly become one of Australia’s most coveted Airbnb escapes.
If you’ve ever dreamed of a romantic retreat, a solo recharge, or simply a break from the city’s relentless pace, this ‘magical paradise’ in Main Arm, Northern Rivers, might be your next must-visit destination.
When you cross the wooden bridge—strung with twinkling fairy lights—into this secluded cabin, you’re transported to a world that feels more Ubud than NSW.
Guests rave about the property’s ‘Balinese feel’, and it’s easy to see why. Surrounded by towering trees, the cabin overlooks a tranquil creek that shimmers with fireflies and glowworms as dusk falls.
It’s a setting that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature. But this oasis wasn’t always the serene sanctuary it is today.
Owner Peta and her husband Mick took on the ambitious task of transforming what was once a run-down, 25-seat restaurant into the enchanting retreat it is now.
‘It was really run down and needed a bit of work,’ Peta recalled.

What started as a plan to rent the space to a long-term tenant quickly evolved after a nudge from a cousin already hosting on Airbnb.
‘We saw the uniqueness in the space and decided it needed to be shared with others.’
The transformation took two years, with Peta and Mick pouring their hearts into every detail.
The old restaurant kitchen and outdoor toilets were reimagined as cosy bedrooms and en-suites, while a new kitchen was seamlessly integrated into the open-plan living area.
The result? A space that’s both rustic and refined, with all the comforts you’d expect—plus a few delightful surprises.
Guests quickly point out the thoughtful touches: a woodfire for chilly evenings, a veranda perfect for birdwatching, and the ever-changing creek that brings a new kind of magic each season.
‘The woodfire is always popular in the cooler months and glow worm spotting along the creek bank adds an extra bit of magic guests love to discover,’ Peta shared.
Why this cabin tops the wishlists

It’s not just the setting that has guests returning year after year. With a near-perfect 4.98 rating from almost a thousand reviews, this cabin is officially one of New South Wales’ Most Wishlisted Airbnbs.
According to Susan Wheeldon, Airbnb Australia’s country manager, the secret lies in the hosts’ dedication: ‘The hosts go above and beyond to ensure their guests have a standout stay. The peaceful setting in nature is also a drawcard for those looking to escape for a quiet getaway.’
The cabin consistently scores top marks for cleanliness, accuracy, check-in, communication, and location. Even value, often a sticking point for luxury stays, sits at an impressive 4.9.
‘Year after year, we get such positive feedback from guests and have so many returning. Even after 10 years of hosting, we still take a moment during a regular cabin clean to stop and take in the magic of the place,’ Peta said.
While couples celebrating anniversaries, honeymoons, and even marriage proposals make up the bulk of guests, the cabin also attracts solo travellers seeking a restorative escape and best friends looking for a memorable getaway.
Most stays are two or three nights—just enough time to soak up the serenity, spot a glow worm, and leave feeling refreshed.

One of the cabin’s biggest drawcards is its total immersion in nature. ‘The location is secluded and immersed in nature,’ Peta said.
‘I love sitting on the veranda, overlooking the creek, watching and listening to the birds, feeling connected to nature.’
It’s a rare chance for city dwellers to unplug and unwind, with the bonus of being just a short drive from the vibrant towns and beaches of Byron Shire.
