The only travel backpack you need

Backpacks and travelling go hand in hand. A convenient way to carry all your daytime essentials, backpacks leave your hands completely free to deal with more important issues, such as managing maps and snapping snaps.

While we probably could have seen such a backpack being invented, it doesn’t make my latest discovery any less cool: the brilliant brains at BirkSun have developed, you guessed it, solar backpacks.

With the tagline ‘Gone Solar, Be Back Never’, the company’s backpacks feature a solar panel on the front (or is that back) of the backpack. This solar panel is completely waterproof and has a built-in USB for all your power and charging needs.

The solar panels start at three watts, and come with a one-year warranty. For every two to three minutes of sunlight they are exposed to, you’ll get one per cent of charge.

With external batteries available to store your solar power as well as phone cables, the backpack comes in four different styles. All backpacks are high quality and designed to withstand all the usual wear and tear that comes with travelling, such as withstanding being dropped or, more likely, thrown aside. They also feature specifically designed pockets for all your electronics, such as laptops, tablets and phones for extra protection.

Easily one of the best things about the BirkSun backpacks, after the thought of never having to deal with a dead phone battery again, are their genuinely cool designs. While purpose designed travel accessories can often look clunky and, let’s be honest, downright ugly, these backpacks come in a range of fun colours and designs in which you’d be happy to parade.

I guess you could say that when it comes to travelling, BirkSun have your back …
