Transform your caravan life with this ingenious $8.50 Kmart find

The allure of the open road and the freedom of caravan living are undeniable. But as any seasoned traveller will tell you, the challenge of maintaining a clean and organised space in a compact caravan is real.

With every new destination comes the inevitable trail of grass, mud, and sand, which can quickly turn your home on wheels into a cluttered mess. However, a clever solution has emerged from the aisles of Kmart, offering caravan enthusiasts a simple yet effective way to keep their space tidy without breaking the bank.

A caravan owner has taken to social media to share her discovery of an $8.50 treasure that has transformed her mobile abode. She posted about how the Kmart Medium Adhesive Shelf has become her go-to for storing shoes and keeping the caravan floor free from outdoor debris.

‘Pardon our shoes, but these $8.50 stick-on storage containers from Kmart have been great for our shoes we take off coming into the caravan. Stay secure too when travelling,’ she wrote.

The beauty of this Kmart find lies in its versatility. Professional organiser Georgina Martin of Collective Order praises the adhesive shelf for its ‘smart and versatile’ storage capabilities in caravans and homes.

‘These shelves can be placed near the front door to create a handy drop zone for keys and sunglasses. No more last-minute searches. They’re also perfect for organising under-sink areas in the kitchen, keeping items like sponges and bin bags tidy and accessible, she explained.

But the utility of this Kmart shelf extends beyond the entryway and kitchen. Martin pointed out that similar products, available at various price points from retailers like Amazon, Bunnings, and Little Label Co., are equally effective in the bathroom.

‘Attaching a shelf to the mirror can help clear bench space by storing hair products, beauty essentials, and fragrances,’ she said.

For those who struggle with object permanence, a clear storage shelf offers visibility while keeping items neatly contained.

The caravan community has been quick to embrace this ingenious hack, with many expressing their eagerness to head to Kmart and snag a few shelves.

‘Great idea. I usually just put them at the door, trip hazard,’ one commenter admitted, while another shared their satisfaction: ‘We love them too.’

Others have found additional uses for the shelves, installing them in their caravan bathrooms to securely hold toiletries and haircare products, even while on the move.

‘Also great in the bathroom. Travelled all over Australia for 18 months. Nothing fell out,’ a user remarked, with another planning to stock up: ‘Yes, I’m going back for more for the bathroom. Very robust, surprisingly.’
