Arty farty hotels for $139

Melbourne now boasts not one, not two but three fabulous Art Hotels. Now the sad news is that I have yet to stay in any one of them, but I did manage to breakfast at the Olsen on Tuesday morning. And I got to see the Cullen on the way as I went to the wrong hotel first up! Never mind – I got to see the foyer of the Cullen and experience a brilliant breakfast at the Olsen, so I feel that I have seen enough to recommend these funky new accommodation options

You’re kidding me!

Never mind – I got to see the foyer of the Cullen and experience a brilliant breakfast at the Olsen, so I feel that I have seen enough to recommend these funky new accommodation options. Why?

Firstly because they are quirky. Each features the works of a highly acclaimed Australian artist in very clean, well-designed buildings.

Secondly the locations are great for those who want a taste of the real Melbourne, and not the concrete jungle of our CBD. The Blackman is beautifully located on the leafy boulevard of St Kilda Road, a few steps from Albert Park Lake. The Cullen is in the midst of funky Chapel Street, renowned for restaurants, cafes and edgy shopping. And the Olsen is further down Chapel Street, nearly on the Yarra River, our famous muddy upside-down tributary.

And the third reason I am so happy to recommend hotels at which I have yet to stay? Because friends who have stayed at all three say they are as good as they look.
