There’s so many free things to see and do in Melbourne that even after splashing out on a hotel you can still keep your travel budget in check. One of my favourite spots to base myself when enjoying a staycation is by the beautiful Albert Park.
It may be home to the much-maligned Grand Prix, but for the remaining 51 weeks of the year, Albert Park is a haven for walkers, cyclists and those who just enjoy lazing about and people watching. A quick trip on the tram, which you can pick up from the adjacent St Kilda Road, and the whole of Melbourne is your oyster.
The Citygate Albert Park has been a home from home to us several times, thanks to last minute deals and the need to just get away for a short time. In fact, my son Euan makes himself so at home in the leisure facilities available, that getting him out and about to enjoy Albert Park or the city sights is a real challenge. I have a son who would happily spend his whole holiday in the hotel swimming pool, on the tennis court, or ordering room service, so accommodation needs to be of a standard to meet his requirements!
All joking aside, when we have stayed in The Citygate, it is usually as one of Wotif’s Secret Deals, where you can often get a park-side room with breakfast included for the same price as a standard room.
