Hong Kong is one of the great cities on this planet. And what better way to start your day here than with a free Tai Chi lesson with local experts, William NG and Pandora Wu.

We are gathered on the Forecourt of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on the edge of the harbour in Tsim Sha Shui. It is 8 am, the sun is up and the skyscrapers on Hong Kong Island watch over us benevolently as we try to emulate William’s graceful poses. The Tai Chi lesson is one of many cultural experiences offered by Hong Kong Tourism. But you will need to hurry as some aspects of this program are being replaced by new and different cultural experiences from April onwards.

Slim, smiling and energetic, William and Pandora are living proof of the benefits of this ancient eastern exercise. Their one-hour class includes a careful explanation of the different movements, with time to practice each movement before gradually speeding up into a more fluid motion. There’s also an inspiring demonstration by some more experienced practitioners. There are many benefits of this form of exercise, but most of all it makes you feel truly alive to your surroundings – simply the best start to your day in Hong Kong.
