JAL’s new low-cost carrier will target Australian travellers

Japan is a hot destination for Australian travellers, so the announcement that Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce a new low-cost carrier will be welcomed by anyone wishing to visit the Land of the Rising Sun.

JAL is targeting medium and long-haul international routes throughout the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the Americas, and will also take in Australia. JAL hopes the new budget offering will complement its other partly owned low-cost airline, Jetstar, by bringing more international visitors to Japan who would then travel on its domestic network.

Operating two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners out of Tokyo’s Narita airport, JAL aims to have its new low-cost carrier ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and will follow in the vein of Singapore Airline’s low-cost option, Scoot.
