Utah from home

During this time of social distancing and staying safe at home, the Utah Office of Tourism has created a host of Utahan recipes from signature chef’s dishes to Utah classics to some great cocktail recipes you can share with your friends on your next Zoom catch-up.

A kitchen is a special place – large or quaint, remodelled or retro. No matter the size, any cooking-space has the power to yield creativity, experimentation and a great deal of ‘mmmmms’.

Some great Utah culinary artists share their special recipes that all chefs (yes – you) can recreate at home. These recipes are simple to create and designed to give you a piece of #UtahFromHome.

Breakfast
Who doesn’t love a good weekend breakfast or brunch at home?

Hub and Spoke Diner in Salt Lake City is a small, local, family owned business committed to preserving the American-Diner legacy through forward thinking culinary excellence. Serving creative riffs on classic diner food through high-quality ingredients sourced from local Utah farmers and artisans.

Their Francesinha (Portuguese breakfast) consists of ham, sausage and short rib on toasted sourdough with Swiss cheese, sunny side up egg and tomato beer sauce.

Dinner
The staff at Goulding’s Stagecoach Restaurant, located in Goulding’s Lodge in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, are 100 per cent Navajo. Each staff member has a family fry bread recipe that was handed down from great-great grandmas, to great grandmas, to grandma, to mothers and so on. When you visit Goulding’s Lodge next time, be sure to order the delicious fry bread and Navajo Tacos.

Dessert
A homemade dessert is one of the finer things in life, and perhaps you’ve found yourself needing a bite of something sweet (with a touch of salt).

Utah is the Craft Chocolate Capital of America and home to eight bean-to-bar chocolate makers, so the next time you are in Utah be sure to check them out.

In the meantime, try baking one of Salt Lake City’s favourite chocolate chip cookies:

Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies by Marian McKenney of Caputo’s Market & Deli.

Happy Hour
The business and craft of distilling has been booming in Utah, ever since High West Distillery opened its doors in Park City in 2006.

We reached out to Utah mixologists for a recipe that can be recreated from home. Cheers to a sip of #UtahFromHome until your local happy hours resume.

My Favourite Redhead by Harp and Hound gastropub located in Ogden in Utah’s north.
