Vietnam, Cambodia for $1999

If Vietnam is not high on your travel wish list, it should be.

It’s one of those countries where, when you step off the plane, you immediately know you’re ‘somewhere else’. Things are different here. Wonderful, exhilarating, but different.

And isn’t that what travel is all about? Experiencing new cultures, meeting different people and seeing things you can’t see anywhere else in the world? You’ll certainly experience that and more on this 12-day Vietnam and Cambodia Delight tour.

Discover Vietnam and Cambodia’s most valuable assets: beautiful landscapes, exciting culture and amazing people, and experience the best of everything both countries have to offer, for just $1999, including return flights and transfers, quality accommodation, air-conditioned transport and highly knowledgeable English-speaking tour guides.

It’s the guides who really make this trip. All are carefully selected based upon their extensive knowledge of the areas you’re touring. They’re locals – and who knows their hometown better than a local? In fact, a tour with Asia Vacation Group is all about the ‘local’ experience.

You’ll dine where the locals dine, eating food they would eat. You’ll get to know the secrets of the towns you’re exploring. They’ll look after you, help you find the best food, after-hours entertainment and give you invaluable travel advice. They’ll even help you haggle. You’ll learn more about your destination than you ever would from a travel book.

While the Asia Vacation Group guides are the perfect hosts for your holiday, the real highlights are the sites you’ll see.

The tour kicks off in wonderful Hanoi, where highlights include the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature.

Then you’ll head down to Halong Bay, and witness what is described by UNESCO as a “spectacular seascape crafted by nature”. On board your river ship, you’ll dine on sumptuous seafood and homestyle Vietnamese cuisine, all the while looking out at some of the most mystical scenes you’ll ever lay your eyes upon. You’ll explore the magical Heavenly Palace Grotto and caves and stay overnight among the remarkable limestone formations that make Halong Bay a world wonder.

Next, you’ll fly to Hoi An and stay in luxury accommodation before setting out to explore the World Heritage-listed Hoi An Town. You’ll wander through the amazing market, visit old temples and important architectural sites, and amble along the rivers that were once arterial links and the central trading point for the entire country.

From Hoi An you’ll fly to Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City, and visit culturally significant landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Post Office, War Remnant Museum, and the colourful Ben Thanh market, one of city’s liveliest areas.

You can choose to explore Ho Chi Minh at your leisure or, take the trek down to Ben Tre and cruise along the Mekong Delta (Editor’s note: highly recommended!), to explore its fascinating landscape, culture and history. Visit old brickwork kilns and factories and glimpse floating villages, quaint towns, rice paddy fields and dense greenery stretching as far as the eye can see. Ride a bike or take a motor cart through Ben Tre village, on to a fabulous alfresco lunch before heading back to Ho Chi Minh.

Also, don’t miss your chance to visit Cu Chi Tunnels, a legendary complex maze of underground passages, chambers and booby traps used by both the Viet Minh and the Viet Cong during Vietnam-US war.

Then on to Cambodia, where you’ll see more spectacular sights.

Ride on an Angkor gondola – a replica of a traditional Khmer boat – and glide gently along the Southern Angkor Thom’s moat while admiring the sunset over Angkor Archaeological Park, or visit Prasat Chrung and learn about the history of the ruins.

Spend the morning at the breathtaking Angkor Wat then, in the afternoon, Angkor Thom, home to the Elephant Terrace, Bayon Temple, Terrace of Leper King and Ta Prohm. You can then choose to spend this evening at your leisure, or experience Siem Reap’s most unique, authentic, top-rated evening entertainment – Phare Circus. You’ll feast your senses on a 90-minute spectacle that blends a riveting theatre with folk music and distinctly Cambodian stories.
