I keep hearing great things about the new MONA gallery in Hobart and can’t wait to go there. So now I’ve heard there’s a market and I’m running out of excuses. The market is being lovingly curated by David Walsh’s partner Kirsha Kaechele. David owns the gallery and the art collections on exhibition, and he has built MONA up into the world-famous gallery it is today.
The market is being held on the rooftop of the gallery every Sunday afternoon until 14 April. You can expect to find locally grown, organic and sustainable produce from the surrounding area. There will also be a range of handpicked work from designers and craftspeople. And junky souvenirs are banned, hooray!
One thing that really caught my eye was the foodie ‘how to’ workshops being run throughout the afternoon every Sunday. Rarely will a market offer anything but wares displayed on rickety trestle tables, and these free classes really made me think that MoMa, like the gallery beneath it, is going to be something special.
When: Every Saturday afternoon, from 21 January to 14 April, 1.30pm to 6.30pm
Where: MONA’s rooftop, 655 Main Road, Berriedale
Cost: Admission is free.
