Little Bay’s water-sport star

Lend Lease retirement villages are filled with people from diverse backgrounds. At all of its villages you’ll find residents with incredible stories about interesting lives led in the past and passions continued today.

Dennis Green OAM BEM from Little Bay Apartments in New South Wales is one of them.

Dennis took part in five summer Olympic Games – winning a bronze medal in kayaking at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne – and competed in sprint kayaking for more than 20 years.

“Believe it or not, my greatest memory isn’t actually winning the bronze medal in ’56 – although this was a great moment, it was carrying the Australian flag at the Opening Ceremony for the ’72 Munich Games. It’s something I will always remember. It was a great honour,” Dennis said.

Seven months ago Dennis and his wife moved from Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast to Lend Lease’s Little Bay Apartments in Little Bay to be closer to their family. And he’s not planning on giving away water-related sports yet – with Dennis still training at either Maroubra or La Perouse beach three times a week.

“It’s great to be closer to our family and the apartments are in a fantastic location. It’s great to be able to get out on the surf ski at the local beaches – I still find myself training whenever I can,” Dennis said.
