What a hot mess this netball sponsorship saga is.
I’m trying to see both sides of it, but no one comes out of it looking good. It seems a bit harsh to knock back that donation when Netball Australia has had some serious money problems, but Gina Rinehart refused to condemn some heinous statements her dad said about indigenous Australians.
If my dad had said something like that, I’d immediately apologise, but I guess there is also an argument that why should we apologise for something that is out of our control?
And I’m not sure where the double standard is, but why is it okay for rugby players to refuse to wear a Pride jersey but not okay for netballers to knock back the same thing for race?
I hope it all blows over soon.

The netballers need to get a reality check. No Gina does not have to apologize for what her father said. All the good work that she puts into the mining industry and setting up education, skills and jobs for indigenous workers speaks louder than words – she is doing, not just talking about do things. I have no idea what Victorians will think about their state government coughing up the money – saying it will bring in tourists. It will bring in some, but netball doesn’t have the same amount of followers as the football codes have. In the end Netball Australia got themselves into a huge financial debt and one must ask how did this happen.
