Respite for carers

Keeping going day after day may be difficult for most working Australians but when there is someone else who relies on you totally, getting some time to yourself is easier said than done.

Help, support and information are available through Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres. These centre provide free and confidential information on support services for carers and those who require care and are located around Australia.

One of the most important services offered is the The National Respite for Carers Program. This program supports carers of older people and those with disabilities to take time out from their caring role and provides the comfort of knowing that your dependents are being well looked after.

For times when having someone to listen is just as important as hands-on help, The National Carers Counselling Program gives carers access to short-term professional counselling and assistance to manage issues such as stress, loss and grief.

You can find details of your local Commonwealth Carelink Centre by calling 1800 059 059 or visit Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres.
