The Mercury Seven

It was 55 years ago today that NASA announced the selection of its first seven astronauts, who came to be known as the ‘Mercury Seven’. John Glenn, at 92, is the only surviving member. He is also the oldest person to ever fly in space, after going into orbit at 77 years of age while still acting as an American senator.
