Alternatives to organic foods

American environmental organisation, Environmental Working Group (EWG), specialises in research and advocacy in the areas of toxic chemicals, agricultural subsidies, public lands, and corporate accountability.

The group has conducted a study on foods and pesticides, and has created both the Dirty Dozen list (foods that contain the most pesticide residue) and the Clean Fifteen list, which are the fruit and veg that contain relatively few pesticides and low total concentrations of pesticide residues.

As many of you would be well aware, there’s a lot to be said for eating organic. However, whether or not you believe the hype, organic can be costly. So, if ‘organic’ isn’t an option for you, try these 15 clean foods instead:

1. sweet corn

2. avocados

3. pineapples

4. cabbage

5. onions

6. sweet peas frozen

7. papayas

8. asparagus

9. mangos

10. eggplant

11. honeydew melon

12. kiwifruit

13. cantaloupe

14. cauliflower

15. grapefruit
