David Bowie is showing at ACMI

David Bowie could be described as ‘chameleon-like’. There aren’t many artists who have managed to constantly evolve as successfully throughout their career. From his early days as Ziggy Stardust to his more modern approach to music and art, Bowie has been, and is, one of history’s most groundbreaking artists.

David Bowie is, currently showing at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne, is an exhibition that showcases every single version of Bowie all at once. It serves as a complete biography of Bowie, as shown through video, music, art and costume, making it a must-see event for all fans of one of the most influential musicians and artists of all time.

Upon entering the exhibition you will be given a pair of headphones, but this isn’t simply an audio tour with a monotonous voice reading out the description cards beneath the artworks. The exhibition is silent throughout most of the rooms, but these headphones will play music, interviews and more, which correspond to where you’re currently standing. If you’re planning on visiting David Bowie is, I would recommend trying to visit during off-peak hours, as many small displays (such as Bowie’s handwritten lyric sheets and diary entries) do become overcrowded at times.
