What’s news in Australia’s supermarkets this week?

Aldi will not go ahead with its snow sale this year. The company cancelled the event citing “deep disruption” to supply chain issues and felt the “responsible option” was to make food items a priority instead.

The annual event had reached cult status in Australia with shoppers queuing for hours. It’s been especially popular for parents who don’t want to spend a lot on gear for growing children.

Aldi has promised the sale will go ahead next year.

Missed out on an Aldi Special Buys product? Let’s face it, some of those centre aisle items fly out of the store. Well, Aldi now has an online clearance shop.

As with most Aldi products, it can be a bit hit and miss. Don’t expect a full range of products, but it’s handy to have scroll through if you’ve had your eye on something but missed the in-store offering.

Also good for products that are out of season – inflatable pools in winter for example, if that’s your thing – and products that don’t have a use-by timeline such as household appliances and books.

Coles has once again got behind the motor neurone disease (MND) cause. Coles has the Big Freeze beanie and branded pork products at all its stores until 21 June.

The Big Freeze is a multi-pronged campaign spearheaded by former AFL great and MND sufferer Neale Daniher. Big Freeze culminates in an annual event at the MCG and last year it raised a record $14.7 million despite the pandemic.

The campaign has invested more than $55.9 million in research since it began in 2014, funding 12 clinical trials and 22 drug development projects.

Also available at Coles Express and Bunnings.
