Astrology experts reveal the fragrance that best matches your star sign

Your signature fragrance is an important part of your personal style. It is the scent that you will be associated with, and it should be something you feel comfortable wearing. Here are some tips to help you choose the best signature scent for your star sign.

Aries

This fire sign is bold, assertive and passionate about most things in life. Fragrances that include spicy notes such as cinnamon are ideal for those born under the courageous, active and daring sign of the ram.

“An Aries person may be energised and inspired by the scent of this well-loved spice,” says relationship astrologer Anna Kovach.

If you want something a little less spicy, look into fragrances with a lilac undertone. Lilac is a calming scent that can bring about patience, perfect for an active Aries.

Taurus

This star sign likes the good things in life, they’re often well-dressed and need a sophisticated signature scent to match. Astrology experts say the earth sign should look for low-key natural fragrances.

“Heliotrope offers a soft almond and vanilla scent with an edge of earthiness that some say is more reminiscent of food than flower,” says astrologer Jill Loftis. “Being the sensual food lover, this scent is perfect for grounding a Taurus personality in earthy reality.”

Gemini

Those who are born under the Gemini sign are often flexible, extroverted and clever, there’s never a boring moment while they’re around.

A sunny and bright lily of the valley fragrance works well for the sign of the twins. “This fragrance is cheerful and youthful, which mirrors some of the best and brightest qualities of the Gemini personality,” says Ms Loftis. “Interestingly enough, it also has its dual nature, like our Gemini. Though it is beautiful and fragrant, the entire plant is quite poisonous if consumed.”

If you’re not a fan of lily of the valley, try some perfumes made with two distinct primary notes as a nod to the twin or dual personalities.

Cancer

Typical traits of those with a Cancer star sign include being nurturing, sensitive and loving to nest at home.

Just like real crabs, Cancers are known to retreat into their ‘shells’ and are most comfortable when they’re at home surrounded by loved ones. Astrologers often recommend homey scents such as vanilla and pine.

“The sensitive sign of the crab seeks comfort and security and loves to be reminded of home and family,” says Ms Kovach. “Those born under this sign are drawn to scents that tempt their appetites and cheer their moody nature.”

Fragrances with foodie undertones such as chocolate, coffee and caramel also fit the bill.

Leo

Leos are noted for being lively, fun, loyal and honest with a lot of enthusiasm for life.

This sign, ruled by the sun, requires a light and cheery fragrance to match a playful personality. Many Leos turn to cheery citrus notes.

“Oranges, mandarins and grapefruits have smells that appeal to the bright and dramatic sign of Leo,” says Ms Kovach. “They are bold, passionate, and energetic and love to stand out in a crowd.”

Virgo

Virgoans tend to be methodical and quick thinkers who prefer simple fragrances that are fresh and natural. “As a grounded and wholesome earth sign, Virgo people are drawn to the scent of pine,” says Ms Kovach. “They’ll enjoy being reminded of nature and feeling like they just walked through a forest.”

Not only is the strong scent of pine a wonderful, natural smell, but the scent is also synonymous with cleanliness for many people. Being in a clean and serene space will make a Virgo feel grounded and balanced and wearing the pine scent throughout the day can offer snippets of this feeling.

Libra

Librans, like the scales that symbolise the sign, are often concerned with attaining balance, harmony, peace, and justice in the world.

They are ruled by Venus, a planet that was named for the goddess of beauty and romance. And what scent is more romantic than rose?

“The fragrance of rose will help a Libra person portray their sentimental attraction energy,” says Ms Kovach. “They are likely to feel more confident and empowered when they wear this scent.”

If rose is too overpowering on its own, you can choose a fragrance that incorporates a larger array of floral scents.

Scorpio

Scorpios are famously discreet and even secretive, with an air of mystery around them. They are also typically determined, passionate and loyal so a Scorpio’s signature scent needs to be bold.

“As a sign associated with power, wealth, mystery, and transformation, the exotic scent of jasmine appeals to those born under the sign of Scorpio,” says Ms Kovach. “This is a sign that has a strong charismatic appeal.”

Jasmine is often blended with other florals or creamy sandalwood and vanilla.

Sagittarius

A Sagittarius values independence and the ability to do what they want, when they want. They are often free-thinking and impulsive so should consider a niche scent such as eucalyptus.

“Sagittarius is a sign associated with philosophy, spirituality, and healing,” says Ms Kovach. “Because of their association with medicine and advancement, Sagittarius is associated with the scent of eucalyptus.”

Capricorn

Capricorns belong to the earth element of the zodiac and are practical, self-reliant, stoic and ambitious. Capricorn’s signature scent is single-note vanilla.

“Capricorn people have a reputation for being the ‘plain Janes’ of the zodiac – but that’s why people love Capricorns,” says Ms Kovach. “Those born under this sign are no-frills, dependable, reliable, and hard-working. They are drawn toward the scent of vanilla for this reason.” Vanilla is popular for arguably the same reasons. It’s extraordinarily common but powerful, pretty, and always nice to have around.

Aquarius

Aquarians tend to be advanced, self-reliant and optimistic. They often shock people with their knowledge so an unexpected fragrance such as clove suits them well.

“This pungent and powerful spice is intense, and its fragrance is perfect for those born under the rebellious and surprising sign of Aquarius,” says Ms Kovach.

Clove is often blended with other spicy and woody notes that create an unusual and stimulating scent.

Pisces

This star sign is regarded as being among the most sympathetic of the zodiac signs. They’re also creative, imaginative and in touch with their emotions. These types of personalities often pair well with calming scents such as lavender.

“Their penchant for meditation and psychic dreams makes the scent associated with relaxation and even deep sleep a perfect match,” says Ms Kovach. “Pisces people may also find their anxious nerves are soothed by this scent.”
