Egg app stops you getting scrambled

In April CHOICE implemented a boycott on fake free-range eggs after the Consumer Affairs Ministers signed off on a draft national standard that doesn’t quite meet the mark.

“The purpose of a national information standard for free range eggs should be to give consumers accurate information, not to protect producers who might be misleading consumers,” says CHOICE Head of Media Tom Godfrey.

“The sad fact is the draft national standard seeks to change the definition for free range eggs to suit the needs of industrial egg producers.”

In its submission to Treasury on the Australian Consumer Law (Free-Range Egg Labelling) Information Standard, CHOICE reaffirmed its call for the maximum outdoor stocking density for free range eggs to be set at 1500 hens per hectare and slammed proposed new rules that would effectively allow misleading labels on supermarket shelves.

Today, it reaffirmed its commitment to the boycott and is urging consumers to find out more about the eggs they’re buying. And if you’re unsure about the authenticity of your free-range egg, then CluckAR, a handy app from CHOICE, will stop you from getting scrambled.
