Casual weekend dressing: Everything you need now

There’s one thing every one of my personal shopping clients wants help with – casual dressing.

You know how to do evenings (smart casual here). You know how to do corporate office, but when you do go there? But weekend casual? It’s tricky.

You don’t want to look too dressed up, try-hard, muttony or fashiony.

But you don’t want to look too boring, dated and daggy either.

How to do casual weekends and look chic? It’s easy.

Ditch the idea of jooshing up your wardrobe with bright colours and kooky prints. Too hard. Ageing. Time-consuming to style. Never looks effortless.

Invest in classic colours, but here’s the trick – make sure the fashion edge is in the new exciting shapes.

That way, the new silhouettes do all the hard work for you. No need to accessorise with scarves and jewellery and tricky styling. That just makes it worse.

Simple throw on these fabulous pieces and you’re out the door.

They do the hard work for you. Which will make you feel good.

Remember, buy less and wear more by investing in a more thought-out, considered wardrobe.

Here’s what you need for sporty luxe chic.

A fabulous parka – camel, cream or khaki. This is great and love this from Uniqlo.

A poncho/cape: Toss it over a white tee or knit – perfect for travel too, like this.

Sweater: Cream, slouchy in cotton like I’m wearing from COS.

Blue shirt: It’s the colour to add instant joosh to your neutrals here.

Shacket: It’s a shirt jacket. Practical. Cool. Toss it over a white tee or knit. Good in denim like this.

At home trackpants: Love this beautiful sleepwear, live in it. From Hybernate. Slouchy sporty trackpants in khaki or here in beige.

Chinos: In camel or slouchy khaki (love these).

Jeans: Wide leg in white, in light denim, in faded denim. These are the best cut.

Sneakers: Go for white or neutral, but try a colour (keep it on your feet).

Dad sandals: What’s not to love? I have these in the three colours.

Bag: Nothing like a chic designer bag here or a saddle bag like this is fabulous or try a roomy tote like this.

Bucket hat or cap here.

Do you have trouble nailing the ‘weekend look?’ Do you have a favourite weekend piece that’s been in your wardrobe for years and years?
