Small group touring: a great way to travel

Weave your way through dreamy travel spots with a touring holiday that delves a little bit deeper. Instead of simply dropping by top sites and major cities at a fast, stressful pace, take the time to experience a destination through the eyes of the people who know it best: the locals who call it home. These are the journeys made of views that need to be seen to be believed, and where each day ends in a hand-picked boutique hotel loaded with charm.

Back-Roads Touring has spent over 25 years perfecting the ultimate ‘off-the-beaten-track’ tours. The key secret ingredients? Small groups of up to 18 travellers and Back-Roads’ award winning On-Road Team. With small intimate groups, the Back-Roads Tour Leaders can share their vast collection of knowledge, passion and unique personal stories with every single traveller to ensure a more personalised and truly authentic experience.

To make your holiday truly enjoyable, forget sunrise starts and long days hopping on and off the coach. Back-Roads’ tours rarely leave before 8:30am and give each destination the attention it deserves – promising plenty of time to explore at your own pace and keeping long drives to an absolute minimum.

With luxury mini-coaches offering spacious seats, air-conditioning and large windows for enjoying the view, your journey along scenic roads beyond the reach of larger vehicles will be as much part of the adventure as the destination. Along the way, your Tour Leader will offer insights into the places you travel through, while leisurely itineraries allow plenty of time to explore the area at your own pace.

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience different cultures is to sample the local cuisine. With visits to local producers, food and wine tastings and even cooking classes, Back-Roads provide you and your fellow travellers with plenty of opportunities to discover new flavours.

Back-Roads’ group holidays bring together like-minded individuals who enjoy discovering unique destinations at a leisurely and relaxed pace. You may start the adventure as strangers, but after sharing dinner tables, experiences and memories, you are guaranteed to end the tour as friends.

It depends on HOW MUCH you want to see. A bus trip is a bus trip whether it be 12 strangers of 35 strangers. Don't get me wrong, I've done quite a few over the years and get along with most people but it is not for everyone.

These days - there is enough information online to facilitate a good trip.. it takes research and you can put together amazing itineraries that will be heaps CHEAPER!!! And you can stay in places longer if you want and can use it as a base to visit surrounding areas. Best way to go.
The trains in most places are brilliant and easy to navigate and also use Viator for local tours. This give you freedom and more money in your pocket!
