Australia’s top hotel

Every two years, respected US publication Robb Report goes in search of the world’s most spectacular and exclusive hotels, villas, and luxury retreats to create the ultimate list of the ‘Top 100 Hotels in the World’.

Only one hotel made the cut from Australia and New Zealand, and you may be surprised to learn it was not the Whitsunday’s Qualia Resort.

Taking out the title of one of the top hotels in the world and, by default, the top hotel in Australia, the Langham in Sydney made the prestigious list.

The announcement comes only six months after the hotel, located alongside the water in The Rocks, re-opened it doors following a grand transformation.

In 2012 Langham Hospitality Group purchased the previously named Observatory Hotel from Orient Express and redesigned the luxury 98-room hotel to reveal an incredible transformation at the end of last year.

Room prices start from $635 per night. So, what makes the hefty price tag worth it? According to General Manager Sonia Lefevre the combination of “a dramatic arrival experience, mixology with jazz after 5pm, the biggest guestrooms in Sydney, signature terraces with water views, take away picnic boxes, pink bicycles and bespoke maps for local touring, plus a million-dollar Sotheby’s art collection, dog friendly suites, private butler tennis afternoons” make for very indulgent offerings from an Australian hotel.

With a multimillion-dollar spa redesign, expansive marble fireplaces in each public space and a hand-curated art collection by Sotheby’s on the ground level featuring celebrated Australian artists including Sidney Nolan, you don’t need to look any further than the Langham if you’re after a night of indulgence in Sydney.

Why not take a look at some images from the recently refurbished top hotel? Have you stayed at the Langham? Do you agree with this choice or is there another hotel you think is more deserving of this title?
