DIY inflight entertainment

Here’s how to create your own inflight entertainment for your next trip.

DIY inflight entertainment

We’ve all been there. You’re at the airport all set to get on your plane only to hear that it’s been delayed. Or you manage to get on your flight and settle down into your seat only to discover your inflight entertainment system isn’t working.

One of the great parts about travelling is the time available to catch up on reading, your favourite TV shows or movies, or relax while listening to music. Here are our top tips for making the most of your flight downtime with your device.

1. Watch
Catch up on your favourite TV series by downloading them from iTunes before you go. While in transit or on a flight are the perfect opportunities to watch movies you may have missed at the cinema or have been meaning to see for a while. Store programs on a USB to save space on your device or use a Netflix account when you have wifi.

2. Listen
Music often plays a big part during travel, with songs listened to a lot at the time becoming a memory of your trip. Stave off boredom by spending time creating a killer playlist of all your favourite songs before you leave. To save space on your device use a service such as Spotify, which can be used both online and offline. Other great options are podcasts of your favourite radio show, or speaker and audiobooks. Audible allows you to purchase books within the app and listen to them offline. Not only do you get through them a lot faster, but it also saves on precious space and weight when it comes to packing.

3. Read
For those of us who like to read, we can opt for ebooks and online magazines, rather than take up valuable space with hardcopy versions. Issuu allows you to read over 25 million publications online and even lets you flip the pages, so it feels like the real deal.

4. Play
For the kid inside you, why not download some games you find fun? Not into child’s play? Options such as Sudoku or crosswords are good for the brain. Learning can be fun, too, so why not choose a language app and imrpove on your skills to impress the locals?

What is your favourite way to keep yourself entertained while travelling?

The one thing I won't be without is my trusty Kindle. It goes everywhere with me. I can load it up with e-books before I go and have heaps to read on one device. Wonderful invention. I get most of my books for free via Amazon and other places. Very rarely pay for a book.
