Surprise Gold Logie for Hamish Blake

Comedian Hamish Blake was last night announced as the surprise winner of 2011 Gold Logie. It was Blake’s first individual Logie and seems to be vindication of his decision to gradually move away from radio and focus more on television. He and on-air partner, Andy Lee’s show, Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year, also took the prize for the Most Popular Light Entertainment Program. Blake described his Gold Logie win as a “fluke”.

Blake’s win came as no surprise to some after the result was accidentally leaked online an hour before the official announcement. The leaked article was immediately deleted but not before the news was quickly spread through social media.

The biggest night in Australian television was arguably overtaken by the presence of pop group One Direction. The band has been fanatically followed throughout its Australian tour by hordes of female teenage fans. Some of them had been camped out since dawn to catch a glimpse of their idols.

Did you watch the Logies? Were you happy with Hamish Blake’s win? Do you even care?
