In 2022 in the last year of his carpentry apprenticeship, Jonty White suffered an onsite spinal injury that would eventually render him unable to return to his apprenticeship.
To stay positive, he began to identify areas in the construction industry that needed improving, including demand for simple ways to find tradies in Sydney. During his investigations, he ultimately identified a larger underlying issue across Australia.
Unacceptable wait times
After the pandemic, Australia’s construction industry struggled with supply chain issues, labour shortages due to worker quarantines, waiting times for visas, and the need for additional precautionary measures. This is not only affecting city and suburban areas but also currently having a large impact on rural communities, with wait times exceeding two years in some cases.
Following bad experiences with employment platforms such as Airtasker, Seek, Indeed and Hipages before his injury, Jonty set out to address these issues and concerns many tradespeople held when using these services.
