The bottle of wine

A woman was driving home from one of her business trips when she saw an elderly woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

“What’s in the bag?” asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, “It’s a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.”

The woman was silent for another moment or two.

Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said, “Good trade …”

The marriage counsellor

After 40 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counselling.

The wife went into a tirade, listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married.

She went on and on about neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, and an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured.

Finally, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and, after asking the wife to stand, he embraced and kissed her passionately, as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow.

The woman shut up, and quietly sat down in a daze.

The therapist turned to the husband and said, “This is what your wife needs at least 3 times a week. Can you do this?”

“Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Friday, I fish!”
