The history of YouTube

On 14 February the largest video-sharing website, YouTube, turned 10. With 300 hours of video footage uploaded every minute, it’s clear YouTube, has become the most popular online video-sharing and streaming service ever.

In honour of the occasion, Quartz has put together the most significant clips of each year of YouTube’s existence – from its humble beginnings of a young man standing next to elephants at the zoo to the dance and music video phenomenon that is Gangnam Style.

Why not watch the videos and experience a slice of YouTube’s history?
