Golden Syrup Dumplings

Golden Syrup Dumplings make the ultimate comfort-food dessert, and our version is super easy to make. Keep leftovers in the fridge to enjoy a warm, delicious treat throughout the week.

Serves: 6

Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
    • 50g butter, chilled and chopped
    • 1/3 cup golden syrup
    • 1/3 cup milk

Syrup:

    • 30g butter
    • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    • 1/2 cup golden syrup
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Method

Sift flour into a bowl, then rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. In a separate bowl, whisk together the golden syrup and milk, and then add to the flour mixture. Using a wooden spoon, stir to form a soft dough. Divide dough into 12 pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

To make the syrup, add all the syrup ingredients in a saucepan over low heat, and stir for three minutes or until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium.

Carefully add the dumplings to the syrup and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes or until puffed and cooked through. Serve dumplings with syrup and cream.
