Sweet and Sour Meat Loaf

Forget the old, boring dish of the depression. With a twist on the traditional, our Sweet and Sour Meat Loaf will tease your tastebuds, and with the help of the microwave, it only takes minutes to make.

Time: 25 minutes


  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 5 tablespoons tomato sauce, divided
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons dry onion-soup mix
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 500g minced beef
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar


In a large bowl, add the egg, two tablespoons of tomato sauce, mustard, breadcrumbs, dry soup mix, and salt and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture and combine well. Shape into an oval loaf.

Place in a microwave-safe dish, cover and microwave on high for 10–12 minutes.

While cooking, add the sugar, vinegar and remaining tomato sauce, and combine. Drizzle over meatloaf, cover and microwave for a further three minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
