A crispy, fluffy, golden sausage roll is a delicious treat on a winter’s day. Australia is home to a vast number of excellent bakeries, all with their own take on the humble meat wrapped in pastry.

But the Baking Association of Australia (BAA) has determined the nation’s number one sausage roll makers – at least for this year. And the winner is: Banana Boogie, located in the Adelaide suburb of Belair.

BAA board member and head judge Stewart Latter told 7NEWS.com.au between 40 and 50 bakeries entered the sausage roll competition, with all of them submitting a roll which had to be no longer than 200mm.

Bakery owner Jason Spencer, who has been a baker for 25 years said he was pretty confident about the quality of his sausage rolls going into the competition.

“We just had to have a good day of baking on the day, and we did. Our pastry came out perfect, our meat didn’t shrink at all,” he said.

“Everything just went our way on the day, and it showed when the judges called the results out.”
Have you ever had a sausage roll from this bakery? Who makes the best sausage rolls in your area?
