As Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest this week, yet another controversy has erupted, this time around the large diamond that is the centrepiece of the crown that lay on top of the Queen’s coffin.
The diamond is known as the ‘Kohinoor’ and was originally unearthed in India hundreds of years ago.
The diamond passed through the hands of India’s Mughal, Afghan, Persian and Sikh rulers before being acquired by Queen Victoria in 1850.
It has remained in the British royal family’s possession since then and is now the centrepiece of the royal crown.
The Queen’s death has prompted renewed calls from Indian authorities to have the diamond returned.
Do you think the diamond should be returned?
As you say: “…The diamond passed through the hands of India’s Mughal, Afghan, Persian and Sikh rulers before being acquired by Queen Victoria in 1850…”
The diamond now belongs to Britain who have every right to keep it.
How on earth does India justify demanding it returned?
Do they expect global legal ownership laws all be thrown out?
Who does India think they are? Bought by the United Kingdom so now belongs to them, so tell India where to go!
Yes ranloby up-em
NO
I am bored with any and all reference to the British royals. Enough is enough.
