Coles has faced backlash from frustrated customers who have noticed a significant increase in the cost of strawberries. Both Coles and Woolworths have acknowledged that disruptions in the supply chain have driven up prices. The premium variety of strawberries has experienced the most significant price hike, with Coles selling a 350g punnet for $10.90 in contrast to the regular 250g punnet priced at $6.50. The Woolworths website appears to be out of stock for strawberries, but the Milkrun app, which is powered by Metro, offers 250g punnets for $7.25.

Following a recent visit to a Coles supermarket, one disgruntled shopper took to social media to share their bewilderment at the price jump.
“I was going to buy some berries for breakfast tomorrow, but they’re $10.90… for a box of strawberries,” a man complains in a video posted to TikTok. “That’s like a dollar a strawberry.”

How much would you happily pay for a punnet of strawberries?

Firstly it’s not exactly strawberry season. Secondly if you walk into any supermarket and they want to charge exorbitant prices for anything you walk out, ring up head office and make a complaint. It more than likely it won’t make any difference and they’ll try to put some spin it, like a politician, but at least you have the satisfaction of knowing you tried to do something for the good of all. That’s it, Jacka.

Easiest solution is to buy your strawberries from Aldi. Whatever the level of prices, Aldi will beat Coles and Woolies almost every time.
