Google has issued an important warning to Gmail users, cautioning users to be wary of a prevalent scam where fraudsters masquerade as the Gmail technical support team.

This scam is specifically targeting those who are attempting to recover their account credentials or change their password. Google has emphasised that the only official method to seek Gmail tech support is via the Gmail Help Centre site.

The rise of fraudulent pop-ups and scam phone calls aiming to swipe personal data and banking information has instigated Google to issue this alert.

“Stay cautious of third-party websites or pop-ups that allege to offer technical support for Gmail and other Google products,” Google advises.

“Google does not charge users to recover their account credentials or change their password,” Google confirmed.

Stay alert, folks, and remember to only use official channels for your tech support needs.
