      Do you like Christmas pudding?

It seems to be a divisive topic these days.

When I was growing up, there was no question Christmas pudding was served at the end of the Christmas meal.

We even had old silver coins cooked into it and my dad would swap them for 20c pieces for whomever found one. And it was always served with homemade custard, never cream or ice cream.

These days, Christmas dessert seems to be being overtaken by pavlovas or Christmas trifle. I can see the attraction, both can be prepared much earlier and finished at the end of the meal, where a pudding can take hours to boil, a thankless task in an Australian summer.

We have drifted away from a full Christmas meal and generally only have ham, seafood and salads, but still carry on with the pudding, even though our kids don’t like it.

Do you still have a Christmas pudding? What’s your alternative if you don’t?
