Are you masking up in public?

I’ll put my hand up that I was less-than-vigilant a few weeks ago until those numbers started piling up.

Then I caught a nasty cold, and I still haven’t stopped coughing. I don’t want anyone to catch this cold (it’s definitely a cold, I’ve done three RATs over the past four weeks) and I definitely don’t want to catch COVID while my immunity is low.

I get that we are tired of all the rules, I’m sick of the rules, but in public I don’t know who’s immunocompromised and would hate to think I passed anything on that made their life worse.

Same here Sophie – been wearing a mask when outdoors all the time – sensible thing to do,

especially now the numbers are rising again!

Had to visit a major shopping centre this morning to go for an eye test … certainly had my mask on as did about 25% of others I encountered.

I haven’t been outside the house since Monday. I must admit I wasn’t wearing a mask on Sunday but by 3pm. I started feeling very unwell with a runny nose and burning throat. Couldn’t sleep that evening although I took some Panadol. Got up the next morning at 3am feeling lousy and took a Covid Test only one line appeared.  I have now been through 2 boxes of tissues, the point I was getting to is my Doctor talked me into have a Flu vaccine. I have never had one before but I reckon I have the Flu.

No you don’t Hola. There is no live virus in the flu vax so it is an absolute impossibility for it to infect you.

There are a few possible reasons for your symptoms:

You were already infected with flu before you had the flu vax

You were already infected with COVID-19 so nothing to do with the vaccine

You have become infected with one of the RSVs now circulating

If you have symptoms and yet return a negative RAT the strong advice is to get a PCR test. There are far too many RATs not picking up COVID infections (either because the test was done far too soon and the  viral load is too low, user error, or the test does not pick up the BA2.4 and BA2.5 variants).

The last reason maybe you have mounted a strong immune response to the vaccine. This may show in cold/flu symptoms but is short-lived. It is a sign of a good response to the vaccine.

Hola, I have at least 3 nephews who have tested negative to COVID using RATs for several days after symptoms began who then went for PCRs which tested positive. Better to assume that you may have COVID and seek a PCR test. Hope you feel much better soon.

Thanks for the advise Lizzy. I did another RAT test on Thursday and it’s come back POSITIVE. I’m now in isolation for the next 7 days. I think I’m over the worst of it  but had to shop Coles  online as my cupboard is looking rather bare.  Wear masks people.

Thanks Suze – I’m a tough old bird and I’m starting to feel a little better. It’s impossible to ring any Doctor at the medical centre I attend, it’s always engaged or a recorded message to say to “hang on and somebody will be with you shortly”, nobody ever comes back. They also say “If it’s an emergency to ring 000” . Even the Chemist shop said they are notorious for that. So no anti virals, I’ll get there eventually.

Yep – I am wearing one. It’s an easy thing to do for myself and others.

Yes, I am wearing a mask whenever away from home and indoors.  And I am happy to do so, it is not a difficult thing to do.   I haven’t stopped wearing one since it was mandatory.  ????

No, I’ve never, and nor do I intend to, wear a mask.  Why would I want my own CO2 emissions going up my nose affecting my brain?!

Neither have I been vaxxed.  Again, why would I compromise my own immune system?

Everyone around me has had covid, even my sister who lives with me and is vaxxed, yet I remain healthy.

If I’d have had two or three polio vaccinations and then caught polio I’d certainly be asking questions!

      WAKE UP!

Iv been wearing a mask since early 2020 as I have no private transport and rely on public transport only.

I live in Adelaide where it is mandatory to wear a mask on public transport and large fines can be applied.

For me it is disappointing to be on this mode of travel as at a guess 50 per cent of people do not wear a mask.

I wish people would consider others but I think that would be asking to much.

Yes I wear a mask and have done so since early 2020 when in public. So far have not caught Covid and I think it is thanks to mask wearing. It is the right thing to do to protect self and others. I would like to see mask wearing mandated again in NSW. Most people in my neck of the woods don’t wear them.

We have worn masks in all public places and group meetings since 2020 and are often the only ones to be doing so. Since Australia made N95 masks have been available we feel more confident wearing these rather than the Chinese stuff.

Around ten times as many people are dying from Covid-19 as are dying from road accidents yet our government’s and police strictly enforce the seat belt mandate but are too chicken to mandate masks. The fact that the majority of Covid deaths are amongst the elderly suggest a high degree of ageism in this lack of mandatory action.

I hope we won’t be dishing out dole and disability payments to those suffering long Covid who were too selfish to get vaxed and wear a mask. Too much to wish for!

Wife and I have never stopped wearing masks in public since mandates were in place, we use the N95 and any others are nowhere near good enough. I can’t believe the number of MP’s sitting in Question Time who are wearing the cheap pale blue masks, they are too thin and do not fit the face properly, surely they’re knowledgeable enough to realise this.
Supermarkets should be mandating masks again. We have never caught Covid thank God, but have had the RSV, which is a bad sore throat, a persistant cough and a runny nose, NO aches and pains mind you. Wife caught the RSV while visiting her daughter when her daughter had it (bad move) and then I caught it from my wife.
