If you sometimes find yourself feeling tired, lethargic or ‘burnt out’ for no good reason, it just may be what you’re eating and drinking.

Nutritionist Susie Burrell told the Daily Mail it’s ‘quick fix’ food and drinks such as those high in sugar, coffee and alcohol that are draining your energy. Instead, she says, you should opt for more fresh fruits and vegetables and meats like tuna.

“How many people do you know who’ll have a coffee, some sushi rolls, and then a microwave meal or a take away? There’s literally little to no fresh food the whole day,” she says.

Ms Burrell says burn out is common in today’s fast-paced world and that you need to make the effort to include more fresh food in your diet if you are to avoid it.

“Creating space where you can order fresh food in, you know what to buy or cook once a week so you’ve got fresh stuff around straight away will improve those variables,” she says.

Burn out is different to general stress or clinical depression and happens when people are so physically and psychologically exhausted they start to lack empathy for others or sometimes feel like their life is purposeless.
