Gardening Australia (GA) has listed some plants you shouldn’t plant and there are some suburban favourites in their sights.

Plants the GA team say you should get rid of include robinia mop top, yuccas, agapanthus and running bamboo.

And while we are at it, dog roses are a big no no, which is a pity, because they are quite pretty. But I can see why, I have seen them growing wild on the roadside, and if they are happily growing there, they’ll grow anywhere.

While some of these suggestions are sensible, GA also wants you to rethink ‘things that drop things’, which is most species of eucalyptus. I can’t see Australians giving up their garden gum trees any time soon.

I would also like to add a few of my own; seaside daisy, mint not in containers, wisteria – we had ours removed 15 years ago and suckers still shoot up – and penny wort.

Do you agree about these plants? Do you have any to add to the list?
