PayPal has a solid reputation as the safest way to pay for online purchases and accounts. But the scammers are circling.
PayPal users are being warned about a sophisticated scam that has been around for a few months but is intensifying.
Security specialist MailGuard says it has been blocking the scam but that frequency of the scam is rising.
“While MailGuard prevents this threat from ever landing in your … inbox, it’s important that you know what to look out for should it be sent to your personal account,” MailGuard says.
“In this scam, attackers are using a PayPal feature, which enables them to send requests to individuals for money to be transferred to them. Their intention is to send as many money requests to as many people as possible in the hope that someone will blindly approve the request.”
I just received this and new it was a scam ,so I answered them and told them I will tell my bank NOT to give them any money if they try.
Thanks for the warning.
They sure are. I had one with The McAfee and PayPal logo on it, but the email address was very suspect. Wanting to know if I wanted to cancel my annual subscription to McAfee, it had to be done within 24hrs. “ring this number” big scam. Got the bank onto it and sorted it out.
