Veterinarian Dr Hunter Finn has issued a warning about a popular toy that could potentially harm our furry friends and cost us a fortune in dental bills.

In a recent video on TikTok, Dr Finn explained in detail how tennis balls can severely damage a dog’s teeth. When playing fetch with your dog, these seemingly harmless balls can collect saliva, dirt, and sand. The felt covering on the tennis ball, which might feel smooth to us, can essentially turn into sandpaper due to this debris. Over time, the abrasive surface of the felt can wear down your dog’s teeth, leading to serious dental problems.

While it’s not a guarantee that your dog’s teeth will need to be removed due to overchewiing a tennis ball, it’s always better not to take the risk.

If your dog enjoys playing with balls, consider switching to ones with a solid surface to protect their dental health and prevent unnecessary pain and potential breakage.

Have you experienced any dental issues with your dog due to tennis balls? What alternative toys do you recommend for our four-legged companions? Let’s share our insights and make sure our dogs stay happy and healthy!
