Where did the Coronavirus 19 originate from? and anything relative to the virus.

Coronavirus is ‘uniquely adapted to infect humans’: Top vaccine scientist says it could only have come from an animal through a ‘freak of nature’ – and the possibility it leaked from Wuhan lab MUST be investigated

Scientists have produced evidence that the pandemic virus is ‘uniquely adapted to infect humans’, raising fresh questions over whether its origins were natural or could have occurred in a laboratory.

May be an image of text that says 'However, fyou show the severe outcomes asa proportion of all vaccinated and unvaccinated people the state, can see that the number fvaccinated people is larger than the number unvaccinated people. Australia may have seen the worst of the most-recent wave of COVID-19’s Omicron variant, according to federal Health Minister Mark Butler.

“The data we’re seeing right now indicates we might have reached the peak earlier than we expected to.

“We’re being a bit cautious about that because what we’ve seen through the pandemic is the ‘school holiday effect’, which shows numbers and transmission takes a slightly different course because of different activity in the school holidays.”

The Health Minister said hospital admissions were down, though remained high: about 5,000 admissions across the country.

Surely announcements like that is going to make people more carefree resulting in more deaths.

People who attended Splendour in the Grass last month have been advised by NSW Health to stay alert for symptoms of meningococcal disease after the death of a Sydney man who attended the festival and another case.

All ticket holders of the event at the North Byron Parklands from July 21 to 24 received an email on Friday.

“NSW Health has been notified of two cases of meningococcal disease in people who attended the 2022 Splendour in the Grass festival,” the email said.

Authorities warn while the disease is uncommon, it can be severe and people need to act immediately if they see any symptoms, as they can appear suddenly and become serious very quickly.

Well, at last I can say I’m over the Covid virus. It did knock me around quite a bit, my Doctor thought I might have got one of the variants. I never knew I had that much mucus  in my sinuses and throbbing throat. But that’s all behind me now although I get a little tired towards the end of the day. So grateful I had all the vaccines otherwise I could have ended up in Intensive Care and never came home. I wear a mask now whenever I go to the shops.

Good to see your recovery Hola 🙂

Like you I’ve had my 4 Jabs and wear a mask when I am out

The other thing I do at home is always put the toilet lid down as the sewage can bring the Covid inside your home when you flush.

        – hope Moderna brings out a Spring Booster.

Moderna’s vaccine is the first bivalent COVID-19 jab to get the tick from the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Supplies have been ordered by the government in advance of the approval and are expected to arrive within weeks.

The bivalent vaccine is designed to stimulate immunity to both the original version of the virus and the Omicron variant and seeks to combat its ability to evade vaccine-generated antibodies.

Australia is the third country, after the UK and Switzerland, to approve the new vaccine, although the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, the country’s vaccine advisory body, still needs to sign off on how the jab will work as part of the broader vaccine program.

“Following TGA’s provisional approval, the doses will arrive in the country within weeks – allowing Australia to be among the first countries in the world to have access to this next-generation COVID-19 vaccine,” a Moderna spokeswoman told The Age.

COVID-19 rule changes from Friday 9 September after a meeting of national cabinet …

        • The COVID-19 isolation period will be reduced from 7 to 5 days for asymptomatic cases however symptomatic cases should stay home.
        • People who work in vulnerable settings, like aged care and disability care, will still need to isolate for seven days.

The Chinese metropolis of Chengdu locked down its 21.2 million residents to contain a Covid-19 outbreak, a seismic move in the country’s vast Western region that has largely been untouched by the virus.

The lockdown of Chengdu Thursday came after 157 new cases were reported. The city, which accounts for about 1.7% of China’s gross domestic product, is home to numerous technology companies and automakers. Foxconn Technology Group, the world’s largest assembler of Apple Inc.’s iPhones, is moving to a closed-loop manufacturing system for the iPads it makes there, according to a person familiar with the decision, while Volvo Car AB suspended work at its factory.

Scientists are working to develop COVID-19 vaccines that:

      • provide more robust protection against new variants and sub-variants
      • offer longer lasting protection
      • provide similar levels of protection from a single dose
      • deliver a strong response from lower doses of active ingredient
      • don’t require freezing or refrigeration, and/or have an extended shelf life
      • offer different routes of administration, e.g. patches or nasal vaccination via breathing in.

Instead, COVID figures in Western Australia will be published once a week on Fridays.

The approach is being adopted nationally and was decided at a meeting of health ministers last week.

First multi-strain COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Australia after government backs Moderna shot.

The federal government has approved a COVID-19 vaccine that specifically targets two coronavirus variants of concern, including the original Omicron strain. The first doses of the bivalent vaccine have already arrived in the country and will now undergo batch testing by Australia’s medical regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Infectious diseases expert Robert Booy said lab data showed this bivalent vaccine was helpful in preventing infection from all Omicron variants, over and above what existing vaccines are expected to provide.

Professor Booy also said the bivalent vaccine could be used as a fifth shot in the future.

“So if you’ve had four … you would have had the most recent one within the last few months, and that would protect you until at least Christmas,” he said. “So it might be something you do in March or April, at the same time you get your flu jab.”

In view that research shows that the efficacy wanes after 4 months, Christmas, I cannot understand why Booy would be recommending to wait until March or April.

Surely the vulnerable should be able to receive the bivalent booster after 4 months and not wait till next year, especially with the virus continually mutating.

Juliane Samara is an award-winning Australian nurse practitioner who specialises in oncology and palliative aged care.

As Omicron emerged and was dubbed a “milder” version of the virus, Covid-19 restrictions in the general community began to ease. In December 2021 we were urged by the then prime minister Scott Morrison to “live with the virus”. The outbreaks in residential aged care facilities began to increase exponentially. The deaths of older people in aged care began to rise. Who noticed?

Life in 2022 (for those who don’t work in healthcare) has largely returned to normal, however Covid-19 outbreaks in residential aged care have been a constant reality. Across Australia, more than 3,000 people living in residential aged care have died with Covid-19 this year. This is three times more than in the first two years of the pandemic.

Where is the action from the government which promised us aged care reform? What advice are the chief health officers giving to national cabinet, and is it being followed?

Face masks are still required for everyone visiting a healthcare setting, residential aged care and disability accommodation and when outside of your home if you have a temperature of 37.5 degrees or higher, you have COVID-19 symptoms or you are awaiting a PCR test result.

Last Friday, Queensland recorded 183 people in hospital with COVID, including nine people in ICU. There were 10,009 new cases of COVID reported in the latest reporting period.

I keep wearing my mask when in close proximity to others.

Am due to go to a dentist, so will have to see a GP to line up some oral antiviral tablets just in case.

My niece from Darwin caught Covid when she visited Sydney. The Pharmacy did not have any antivirals in stock and so by the time they arrived her husband who caught the Covid of her was able to take them and he recovered more quickly.

Mr Mawer passed away “peacefully” in his sleep in his Central Tilba home on Saturday afternoon on the NSW South Coast.

“”He lived life to the full even in recent months. He insisted on sitting up for meals, he did his exercises every day and had plenty of visitors.”

Mr Mawer, who celebrated his 110th birthday on August 15, took the title of Australia’s oldest man in July last year after the passing of a Queensland man Dexter Kruger.

Born in 1912, Frank married his sweetheart Elizabeth, an Irish immigrant, in 1939. Elizabeth passed away in 2011 at the age of 92 after more than 70 years married to Mr Mawer. They raised six children. The extended family includes 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Internationally, there is growing hope of a light at the end of the tunnel. The World Health Organization has said the end of the pandemic is in sight. Experts are optimistic increased immunity and new vaccines will put the country in good stead in months to come, but have warned against complacency. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has warned that “peaks and troughs” of the virus and its variants would continue saying a new “lower and slower” wave could come before the end of the year.
