ATO remains offline

The ATO’s server crash has not only resulted in staff sitting idle, but also the loss of 1 million gigabytes of data. And while the ATO assures us that no one’s personal data is at risk, it can’t quite put its finger on the details of the data that has gone astray.

What has caused the crash is also unclear but it isn’t the age of the system, which was upgraded just 13 months ago.

The online service to customers remains off line so if you’re trying to file your tax return, you might want to wait a few days.
