Drinking for a good cause

In case you needed another reason to enjoy a cold beer, a new bar in Melbourne provides just that.

With the launch of Shebeen, it is actually accurate to say that your beer drinking habits are helping those who need it most. The brainchild of university friends Simon Griffiths and Zanna McComish, 100 per cent of the profits from the bar in Melbourne’s CBD go to the developing world.

Inspired by their time spent volunteering in Africa, and the street bars over there, the founders are hoping to change the way we think when it comes to drinking. The really cool part is that the profit from each sale is donated to the country in which your drink originated.

Shebeen is the whole entertainment package, with a restaurant and bandroom on site. And with the potential to change way in which we drink, I guess this is more proof that beer really does make life better.

What do you think of this idea? Would you like to see more bars and restaurants implement similar initiatives?
