Living on a $29 food budget

Gwyneth Paltrow is better known for her extravagant lifestyle than her frugal way, but the Hollywood star is taking on the #FoodBankNYCChallenge, spending only US$29 for a week’s food shopping. Does such a ‘challenge’ really help those in need?

The US$29 is the amount that people living on food stamps in the US have to feed themselves in a week. Paltrow, who champions juice cleanses and ridiculously expensive health food items on her lifestyle website, Gloop, has been set the challenge by chef Mario Batali a member of New York City’s Food Bank board.

The picture below from Gwyneth’s Twitter feed are what she has chosen to purchase.

Do you think they’ll last her a week? What would you buy? Can you give her any tips on how to live on a tight food budget?
